Founded in 2009 by Yael Aflalo, Reformation prides itself off of their cheeky catchphrase, “Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. Reformation is #2.”

Known for their vintage-inspired pieces and excellent fits, Reformation is more than just an aesthetically pleasing, royalty-approved company. They’re also extremely transparent, with ethical labor standards to top it all off.
With just a glance or two at their “about” pages, it’s very apparent that the company considers sustainability in everything that they do. Their main focus is on the textiles their clothing is made from, as the most impact usually comes from the materials stage of production. They’ve developed their “Ref standards” to measure the sustainability of each and every textile they utilize in their designs, ranging from A (for “Allstars”; natural, renewable fibers) to E (for “Eww, never”; fabrics with a large footprint, Reformation will only use these under 10% of an item’s material content, if necessary).
In addition, every product’s page shows you how the item compares to others in terms of their individual impact, aka where it stands on the “Ref scale” under the “sustainability” tab.

It’s very clear that sustainability is on the forefront of Reformation’s mind. The company also participates in a carbon offset program, that is, they invest back into environmental programs in order to offset their own impact as a manufacturer.
Reformation also uses recycled packaging, reusable totes instead of plastic bags, eco-friendly building design, certified dyes, and they plant a tree for every staff member’s birthday, to name a few of their other environmentally-friendly efforts.
